info 2011
The 7th Annual Diversnight will be arranged in November 3rd, 2011 at 20:11
(8:11 pm) local time
Diversnight is expected to be arranged in large parts of the world this year, as the arrangement grows bigger and bigger each year.
The first Diversnight was arranged in Norway in 2005; attracting 351 scuba divers to participate in the country-wide event. These divers were located in 40 different locations, the northernmost in the North cape and all the way down to southern "Lindesnes". Read about how it all started HERE
2005 351 divers in water in Norway, at 40 dive sites
2006 889 divers, 889 dive sites, 3 countries
2007 1859 divers, 138 dive sites, 6 countries
2008 2183 divers, 178 divesites, 12 countries
2009 2749 divers, 218 dive sites, 20 countries
2010 1700 divers, 175 dive sites
Now for the 7th time, this event is organized locally by diving clubs, dive centers and individuals who support the idea of Diversnight by providing enjoyable diving, an positive environment and sometimes even homemade cakes; truly showing off all the great aspects of the sport. Diversnight would not exist without these great divers!
Why?
The main reason for Diversnight is to get together and have fun, regardless of dive club or country. We get the chance to show the world what a great hobby we have, hopefully attracting more people to not only to diving in general, but to diving activities in the winter, when it might be a little cold and dark.
The idea originated during a club-get-together one Friday evening in November, 2005. It sounded like it would be fun to have a night dive, taking place all over Norway at the same time. Four weeks later the planning, preparation and execution of the first Diversnight was finished and 351 people had been diving from 40 different locations in Norway.
Who?
The events have been made possible thanks to an exemplary group of event organizers and their effort to create great dive happenings. Anybody can join that group and initiate a local dive within the Diversnight. Whether you are acting alone or representing a dive club or scuba shop you are all welcome to arrange a night dive, just check out the registration button at www.diversnight.com. Information regarding organizing an event will be published on www.diversnight.com as well as sent to all registered organizers.
‘Cake’ has been a common keyword in the Diversnights - to bring people together for a chat and enjoy each other’s company as well as something tasty in a chilly November evening. Lots of initiative and positive attitude have made these events possible, and we hope to see the wonderful people who organized the dives return to join us again this year. Their outstanding effort is highly appreciated!
World Record?
Our hopes are to set a world record this year. It is a great opportunity to show even more people what we do, what scuba diving can offer, what a great community we have, and that our hobby is safe! The media has been very supportive in helping us showing our passion, and that one doesn’t need 25 degrees warm water in order to enjoy diving.
Safety
The following must be present on the dive site for the matter of safety:
· Surface support; a diver in gear (PADI Rescue or equivalent*)
· Emergency Management Plan in the unlikely event of an emergency
· The diving flag must be raised
· Divers must be logged in and out of the water
· No ‘solo diving’
· All divers must be certified , with night diving experience*
· Local emergency services should be notified of the event
· All divers must fill out a liability release form
*The surface support diver may stick his or her head underwater at the designated time in order to be a participant in the night dive, but must immediately return to the surface and maintain his or her role.
**Any diver without night diving experience must be accompanied by a Divemaster or Instructor, and have received relevant information and instruction of light communication prior to the dive.
There will be a lot of divers on site, and it is important that safety will be taken care of. Make sure that you have enough time for all divers to fill in the papers and get a good briefing of the dive site and general dive arrangements.
It is a good idea if the divers leave the surface in “waves” . Then it will be a lot easier for the dive buddies to stay together, and they don’t have to swim in layers:-)
Registration number of divers?
Event organiser or the dive master on site must make sure to send a SMS containing the number of divers in water at the site to “Diversnight phone”. (Make sure to write the organizer, location’s name - then we will find it in our list)
ex: < Colona Divers, Ras Katy, number of divers: 22>
Diversnight sms phone number is: +47 988 66 917

Tone’s tips..
Press;
Ask local divecentres or instructors if they will sponsor some cources.
Perhaps you could challenge someone from the press, to become a diver and also participate at your diversnight event.. In that way you will probably get more press coverage about your dive.
Prizes;
Local prizes:
Perhaps you could have your local divecenter to sponsor something? Some local bakeries perhaps. Or some other who could sponsor your local event also?
Diversnight prizes:
Send us the contact info to your divers ASAP after the dive. Then all divers will have the possibility to win prizes..
Safety;
Perhaps your local Divecenter will help you with dive flag, O2 suitcase, Divemasters or other necessarily?
Registration;
Send your SMS including divesite number and number of divers in water ASAP! The press and all divers is following the number as it increases, then we will have the possibility to have correct numbers at all time!
Logg;
During the briefing of the dive, it might be an good idea to make the divers call out their names before leaving the surface, and also when they are back up! It is dark, and almost impossible to know who is who when everybody is calling out: I’m up.
PS:
Even though we now have an Diversnight phone, Tone will be happy to hear from you!! Tell me about your dive, it is always so nice to get he phone calls from all over the world, and all nice SMS.
